Molat – The jewel of the Zadar archipelago

Molat, also known as Melada in the Italian dialect, is one of the pearls of the Zadar Archipelago, tempting tourists with its unique atmosphere, history and picturesque landscape. The history of Molat is as fascinating as its landscapes. From 1151, the island was owned by the Benedictine order from the monastery of St. Krševan, and from 1409 it was subject to the rule of Venice. These cultural and historical influences are still visible in the architecture and character of the island, creating a unique cultural microclimate.

During World War II, in 1941–1943, Molat became the site of a tragic event – the Italian concentration camp. This painful memory reminds us of the difficult times the island went through during the occupation.
